J. Theodore Smith
Chair

J. Theodore Smith is a Vice President/Group Manager with Manufacturers and Traders Trust Company (M&T Bank) in Rochester, NY.  Ted has been with M&T Bank for 15 years; prior to joining M&T Bank in 1994, Ted worked for State Street Bank and Trust Company in Boston, MA.  Ted is a 1981 graduate of McQuaid Jesuit High School, a 1985 graduate of LeMoyne College and a 1989 graduate of the William E. Simon School of Business Administration/University of Rochester. Ted has been an active member of the Board of Directors of Compeer Inc. and Compeer Rochester Inc. since 2003.
 
   

Mimi Bacilek
Member

Mimi Bacilek is the President of SuccessBuilders LLC. Mimi brings to the board significant experience as a leader, executive and entrepreneur. She has successfully led people and results in both public and private sectors. Mimi has a Master of Public Administration with an emphasis in organization behavior. Her career has great breadth, spanning frontline operations, operational leadership, training and development, quality processes and strategic human resource development.

 
 Adam Barone
Member

Adam Barone is the Managing Director/Partner of NYC-based studio Sonic Union. His firm provides post-production services such as sound and visual effects for the agencies that produce national commercials such as Verizon, GE, Chase, and Nike. Adam came to the post-production world with over 15 years of experience in cinema advertising as Co-Founder/President of Screen Seen, Inc. and SVP/Director of Production at Val Morgan Cinema Advertising, of which Compeer Rochester was a client. A Chautauqua County native, he is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology with a B.S. in AV Communications residing in Brooklyn, NY. Adam is an avid cyclist and has a daughter age 2.

  Pamela B. Giambrone
Member

Pam Giambrone helps students throughout the greater Rochester, N.Y. area as a teacher and as a private tutor. A long-time friend to Compeer, she has served as a Compeer volunteer for more than five years and has been actively involved in numerous Compeer events and activities. Pam earned a bachelor's degree from Wittenberg University in Ohio, where she met her husband - the late Ben R. Giambrone, former president and CEO of Compeer Inc.


Ted H. Kordela

Member

As executive director of Family Services of Chemung County Inc. in Elmira, N.Y., Ted Kordela oversees an agency of 180 staff with primary services in mental health, home care and youth-preventative programs. Kordela expanded the community clinical services from a small, rural clinic into the largest outpatient clinic in upstate New York, including specialty services that draw clients from a nine-county region. He also implemented the first non-hospital-based, rural partial hospitalization program in the Eastern U.S. A Compeer volunteer, Kordela earned his master's degree in Human Services Administration from Spertus College and his bachelor's degree in Political Science from Syracuse University.

 


Janine Mangione

Member

Janine Mangione is a partner in the Healthcare Division at The Bonadio Group. Janine’s working relationship with the Department of Health includes representing client’s interests in numerous reimbursement audits including base period, property, roll forwards, dropped services, Medicare Part B and NAMI. She graduated from St. John Fisher College, magna cum laude, with a B.S. degree in Accounting, and has serviced the healthcare market for over 16 years providing audit and consulting services to nursing homes, diagnostic & treatment centers, homecare, independent and assisted living facilities in New York State.

 
 
Stephen R. Martin
Member

Steve Martin currently serves as Senior Vice President at Canandaigua National Bank & Trust. He graduated with a B.S. in Business from SUNY Fredonia, and holds additional degrees from the NYS Bankers School of Retail Management and ABA's School of Bank Marketing.


Dick Rosenbloom
Member

Dick is the founder and CEO of Ambrell. Ambrell is an international manufacturer providing effective precision heating solutions. Their equipment is installed in over 40 countries and is supported by their network of dedicated induction heating experts. Dick holds an MBA from the Simon School at the University of Rochester.
 
Andrew Zappia
Member

Andrew is a shareholder on the law firm of LeClairRyan’s Intellectual Property Litigation practice. He has represented a wide variety of technology companies in trials and arbitrations relating to pharmaceuticals, biologics, medical devices, mechanical inventions, and software. He is experienced in the full array of issues that arise in connection with intellectual property disputes, including patent infringement, licensing, copyright and trademark infringement, ITC proceedings, antitrust claims, and trade secret and trade dress disputes.

 
 

Bernice Skirboll 
Founder, Board Chair Emeritus*

Bernice “Bunny” Skirboll founded Compeer more than 30 years ago, following a near-fatal automobile accident. Her long rehabilitation helped her realize the power of friendship, and she vowed to make a difference in other people’s lives. Skirboll served as executive director since Compeer’s inception. Under her leadership, Compeer grew from a small program to an internationally recognized mental health agency. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Rochester and has received numerous professional awards. Bernice wrote a book about Compeer, "Compeer: Recovery Through the Healing Power of Friends," which the University of Rochester Press published in 2006.

 
Michele Brown
Committee Chair, Affiliate Advisory Board*

Brown has been with the Compeer program in Erie County, New York since its inception in 1985, and recently celebrated her Silver Anniversary with the affiliate.  An active volunteer, Michele was recently recognized with a Community Leader Award under the Social Services category for her dedication and leadership within the program, and for transforming the organization into a major mental health care provider.
 
 
Carl Cadregari
Committee Chair, Technology and Training*

Carl Cadregari is Principal and Practice Lead of Bonadio’s Enterprise Risk Management Team. Carl also serves as the Chief Information Security Director at one of the area's largest insurance companies.  Carl has more than 28 years of experience in Information Technology and Information Systems Security and Architecture, Deployment, Project Management, Security by Design, and Governance.

 
 

Charles Curie 
Advisor, Behavioral Health Policy and Research*

Charles G. Curie is the principal and founder of THE CURIE GROUP, LLC, a management and consulting firm specializing in working with national and international leaders in public and private healthcare, particularly mental health (MH) services and substance use (SU) treatment and prevention arenas.  In 2001, Curie was nominated by President George W. Bush and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate to head the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).  As SAMHSA Administrator, Curie led the $3.4 billion agency responsible for improving the accountability, capacity and effectiveness of the Nation’s Substance Use treatment and prevention and Mental Health services.


 

Mark Salzer, Ph.D.
Advisor*

Mark Salzer, Ph.D. is a professor and founding Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.  He is the Principal Investigator and Director of the Temple University Collaborative on Community Inclusion of Individuals with Psychiatric Disabilities.  Dr. Salzer obtained his bachelor’s degree in sociology and psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign.  He has been the principal Investigator on numerous federally-funded research grants and has more than 60 publications that examine the delivery of effective community mental health and rehabilitation services.
