A Tribute to Ben R. Giambrone

The entire Compeer family has suffered a devastating loss, with the passing of Ben R. Giambrone at the age of 56 after a short but valiant battle against cancer.

Ben left an indelible mark on Compeer. He served as president and CEO from 2004-2006, as chair of the board of directors from 2002-2004 and as co-chair of the Compeer Rochester Sports Luncheon. Under his leadership, the luncheon raised more funds for Rochester’s volunteer-based services than ever before.

As president, Ben was deeply committed to enhancing relationships with Compeer affiliates. His many successes included establishing better and ongoing communication among affiliates, offering development support and professional marketing services, and achieving one of the most successful and open Compeer conferences ever.

His greatest legacy, though, is the bold, new thinking he brought to the organization – helping to put Compeer in a position of new growth. The recent formal separation of Compeer Inc. from Compeer Rochester was, in large part, born out of Ben’s vision.

It is truly a sad time for Compeer, but there is no doubt that we are a better organization because of his tireless, passionate service to children and adults with mental illness – and his dedication to helping them become more socially integrated into their communities.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ben’s wife, Pam; their children, Robb (wife Helen), Charlie and Catie; his mother, Jean; and the rest of the Giambrone family. Ben and his family will always be an integral part of the Compeer family.
