Compeer Lancaster's "Green Team"

Kim Green first learned about Compeer Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 2007 while visiting a volunteer website looking for an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of persons who were lonely and isolated. It was Kim's experience with a seriousl physical illness that made her reflect on what it might feel like to be alone and going through an illness or the challenges of everyday life without the type of support she had from her husband, Andy, and others. Kim became a Compeer caller and then a one-to-one volunteer friend. When Compeer Lancaster's Volunteer Coordinator resigned, she applied for the position and was thrilled to join Compeer Lancaster's staff in June 2008.

As many spouses can relate to, from the time Kim oined Compeer as a volunteer, Andy became a "volunteer," too. At first, he attended monthly Game Nights and supported friends whose volunteers were unable to attend. Then, Kim "volunteered" Andy to assist with efforts to redesign and update Compeer Lancaster's website. He added features that allow donations and volunteers' monthly reports to be submitted online. Andy continues to monitor the website regularly, update the upcoming events / activities section, and to post pictures from recent Compeer events. Before Kim could "volunteer" Andy for something else, Andy chose to take the Compeer training, and since April 2008, Andy has been matched in a one-to-one friendship with a man who is hoping to develop the first friendship of his lifetime.

Without a doubt, Compeer Lancaster has a winning "Green Team!"
